Bouquets as centerpieces?

Filed under: Decorations and Rentals, Flowers (wedding) — Linda Surles @ 4:31 am

I was having lunch yesterday with a floral designer and we were talking about ways brides are trying to save money on floral arrangements. He mentioned that one of his brides heard that they could use the bridesmaids bouquets as table centerpieces at the reception. Not a good idea! Here are a couple things to consider:

Typically the guests arrive at the reception before the wedding party. This will leave you with empty vases on the tables until they arrive with their bouquets.

Will there be more tables than bridesmaids? What will you do with the empty tables?

The bouquets are a gift to the attendant. When they are ready to leave, they will be taking their “centerpieces” with them.

Always talk to your planner and/or florist about ideas to cut costs. An expert has seen many creative ideas that might work for your wedding. They can also let you know the pitfalls of some ideas that just won’t work!

Why Not SILK?

Real flowers are the traditional route. The scent of a rose or lilac and how they fill a room draw many people to using real flowers. Scents are tied to emotions, and as a wedding is one of the most emotion-filled events a person can ever experience, the emotional factor is another selling point. The delicate beauty real flowers possess is usually the main reason many people choose real over silk. Real flowers do have their drawbacks. Real flowers fade and wilt away after a few days. For the more sentimental brides, who wish to keep their bouquet, this factor may push them to consider silk flowers.

SILK although not as traditional of a choice as real, they are becoming more popular. Today, there are many realistic looking silks out there. They are less expensive and you don’t have to worry you can’t have your favorite exotic flower because it’s not the right season. You also save money on preservation.

Ice Sculptures for Weddings

Filed under: Catering and Culinary, Decorations and Rentals, Receptions — admin2 @ 3:26 pm

I think that having an ice sculpture or ice carving at your wedding receptions is an inexpensive way to add a very elegant display to your catering presentation.

Some would think it to be extravagant, but, it really does add some ‘class’ for what is a relatively small amount of money.

Find lots of fine caterers and Ice Sculptors at http://brideandgroomplanner.com/localMerchants/?action=lm

Brides I am so impressed in the quality of Vendors we bring into the industry, keep doing those surveys. http://brideandgroomplanner.com/myWeddingSurvey.php

My favorite part of our planner and Website is the Your Future section, we take pride and staying with you after your special day, don’t overlook this section, we are growing and have recently signed on a couple of Realtors and a Financial Planner. I spent an hour with our financial planner last week and he educated me more in that hour than I have ever been in my 39 years. What better gift could your parents or you give to yourselves than a free financial consultation to start your marriage off right and avoid one of the biggest potholes you could get into.

On the lighter side have you checked out our wedding disaster videos? http://www.brideandgroomplanner.com/stopWeddingDisasters.php  Share them with you friends and family?

Don’t miss our idea galleries it’s my favorite part of our new site. Look for the mouse ring box for all your computer savvy fiancés or boyfriends what a trip!!!! It’s in the wedding ring section.http://cincinnati.brideandgroomplanner.com/pictureGalleries.php

And don’t forget your engagement stories and add a picture after such romantic stories we want to see you.

Flogos - Your initial in clouds

Filed under: Decorations and Rentals — Linda Surles @ 10:04 am

I was reading an interesting article in the AJC a couple of weeks ago about Flogosand thought…What a cool idea for a wedding! Just imagine walking out of your reception or ceremony and looking into the sky to see your initial flaoting like clouds in the sky. Flogos were developed by Franscisco Guerra, a special effects entrepreneur in Alabama. He has developed a machine that produces tiny bubbles filled with air and helium that forms the foam into shapes and pumps them into the sky.

Here are the two questions that came to mind for me…first, how much? I need to do a little more investigating, but it appears to be $3500 to rent the machine. They create the stencil to make your “logo cloud” which takes about 10 days. My next thought was….what about the environment? Flogos are 100% environmentally safe.

Visit their website to see videos of the flogos in action at www.flogos.com. It is very cool!
