Planning the music is a good job for the groom.

Filed under: Event Planning, Music & Entertainment — info@fontainebleaustrings.com @ 11:06 am

Fontainebleau Strings knows how to put together a program of music that is joyful, appropriate, and fresh. Hum a few bars or give us a title. Or let us pick it out–we’ll make it the easiest part of the wedding plans. In fact, it’s so easy the groom can do it. Brides, you and your mom have enough to do! Consider putting HIM in charge of the music. It’s not like he’s going to pick out the wrong color.

Why Not SILK?

Real flowers are the traditional route. The scent of a rose or lilac and how they fill a room draw many people to using real flowers. Scents are tied to emotions, and as a wedding is one of the most emotion-filled events a person can ever experience, the emotional factor is another selling point. The delicate beauty real flowers possess is usually the main reason many people choose real over silk. Real flowers do have their drawbacks. Real flowers fade and wilt away after a few days. For the more sentimental brides, who wish to keep their bouquet, this factor may push them to consider silk flowers.

SILK although not as traditional of a choice as real, they are becoming more popular. Today, there are many realistic looking silks out there. They are less expensive and you don’t have to worry you can’t have your favorite exotic flower because it’s not the right season. You also save money on preservation.

Take a Non-Traditional Stand… Tell the Economy to Bugger Off.

Filed under: Catering and Culinary, Event Planning, Receptions — Maggie Raffel @ 3:12 pm

Whenever you listen to the news or read the paper, all you hear is the economy this and the economy that.  Many people have been hit pretty hard by the recent economic downturn here in the states, but that doesn’t mean your wedding has to suffer too.  If you want to have your dream wedding, have it.  The economy will get better, but how many weddings are you planning to have?  When planning your upcoming wedding reception, try to remember the true meaning of “econimize”.  Bigger can still be better, but saving money can get a little tight depending on your guest count and how extravagent you really want your party to be.  If you are creative in your planning process, you can create a memorable experience without breaking your bank account.

Everybody wants that dreamy saturday night to party their hearts out, but few take into consideration the other six days of the week.  Although saturday’s are ideal in many a bride’s mind, don’t ignore holiday weekends and off-nights to invite a smaller group to celebrate with you.  Many far-flung friends and relatives would probably appreciate a holiday wedding nowadays because they won’t have to make special travel arrangements to attend.  They’ll get a double party when visiting you!  (And they will definitely never forget your anniversary.)  If you are looking for a smaller wedding, don’t discredit a thursday night or a sunday.  Many people have flexible schedules these days and might enjoy a weeknight party to cut the stress of their work week.  They won’t be expecting, or desiring, such an extravagent production as maybe they would have to attend on a saturday night, so you can save a few bucks and have your closest friends and relatives celebrate with you for a personal and elegant evening.  You can always have a bigger celebration later to include a larger group for a lot less money than a traditional wedding affair.  Take the destination wedding idea, but keep it here at home.

There are many ways to save money with your reception if you book your hall on an off-night.  Take a non-traditional approach to your reception and you will be surprised to find out that your event will stand out in the minds of your friends and relatives much longer than the traditional saturday night affair.  You’ll beat the economy and still have the dream wedding you’ve always wanted.

Want proof? Give me a call at Raffel’s Catering, Inc. (513) 563-9996 or send me an e-mail to maggie@raffelscatering.com and I’ll give you a few more tips and hints on how to save a few dollars on your wedding reception.

When Should You Cut the Cake?

Filed under: Event Planning, Flowers (wedding), Receptions, Wedding Cakes — Editor - The Big Wedding Blog @ 11:14 am

I attended a recent wedding where the bride and groom proceeded to “cut the cake” and then “throw the bouquet & garder” immediately upon arriving at their reception and before the dinner was served.

Is this a new trend? Is this now the preferred schedule of events for the reception?

Brides and Wedding Professionals, Please add your thoughts.

Planning A Wedding Over A Holiday?

Filed under: A Rachel Reeves BLOG, Event Planning — Rachel Reeves - BrideAndGroomPlanner.com @ 4:35 pm

You have the ring and now the time has come to pick the date. As you and your fiancé ponder over the perfect date, it may cross your mind that a holiday weekend would be perfect.

1. You will have to take less time off work since you are already off because of the holiday.

2. You could possible plan a theme around the holiday. (Fireworks for a 4th of July wedding?)

3. Your guests will be thrilled to spend their 3 day weekend at your wedding.

Wait…

It’s hard to believe that not everyone is as excited as you are about your big day. While your guests are happy to attend your wedding, don’t be surprised if you get a few groans and moans over having to give up their annual family trip to the cabin, because your wedding falls right in the middle of their precious holiday weekend.

In the end, pick the date that is best for you and close family (this does not include your second cousin, you never met, that lives in Iowa). But don’t be surprised if you have some guests decide that a long weekend in Suburbia America for you wedding isn’t on their top 10 list of things to do on their holiday weekend.

Summer Wedding Trends and Tips

Filed under: Event Planning — Carl House @ 8:20 pm

There’s nothing quite like an outdoor summer wedding-the beautiful scenery, the romantic warm breeze, and the scent of summer flowers surrounding you and your guests. Not much could improve on the pleasure of an outdoor wedding on a lovely summer day, but providing cold beverages and snacks for your guests prior to the ceremony will make the experience even more enjoyable!

With a frosty beverage in hand, your guests can enjoy the outdoor atmosphere and eagerly anticipate the beginning of the processional while staying hydrated and refreshed with a cool glass of lemonade, iced tea, or water! As you and your beloved exchange your vows, your guests will hang on every word, without the distraction of thirst to take away from the special moment! A vegetable crudite or a seasonal fresh fruit display made available for your guests prior to the ceremony is also a thoughtful touch, which will be much appreciated by all those present on your wedding day.

For your outdoor summer wedding, it’s a lovely gesture to provide refreshments for your guests prior to your ceremony. At Carl House, this is just one facet of our signature 21st Century Southern Hospitality. Stay tuned for more summer wedding etiquette tips in our next issue of Happily Ever After and Beyond!!

Brides I am so impressed in the quality of Vendors we bring into the industry, keep doing those surveys. http://brideandgroomplanner.com/myWeddingSurvey.php

My favorite part of our planner and Website is the Your Future section, we take pride and staying with you after your special day, don’t overlook this section, we are growing and have recently signed on a couple of Realtors and a Financial Planner. I spent an hour with our financial planner last week and he educated me more in that hour than I have ever been in my 39 years. What better gift could your parents or you give to yourselves than a free financial consultation to start your marriage off right and avoid one of the biggest potholes you could get into.

On the lighter side have you checked out our wedding disaster videos? http://www.brideandgroomplanner.com/stopWeddingDisasters.php  Share them with you friends and family?

Don’t miss our idea galleries it’s my favorite part of our new site. Look for the mouse ring box for all your computer savvy fiancés or boyfriends what a trip!!!! It’s in the wedding ring section.http://cincinnati.brideandgroomplanner.com/pictureGalleries.php

And don’t forget your engagement stories and add a picture after such romantic stories we want to see you.
