Centerpieces

Filed under: A Rachel Reeves BLOG, Decorations and Rentals, Flowers (wedding), Receptions, Rehearsal Dinners — Rachel Reeves - BrideAndGroomPlanner.com @ 11:20 am

As you plan your wedding, you will probably notice all too quickly how much everything ads up.  A major wedding cost can be your flowers.  Flowers help create a beautiful atmosphere that is fundamental to a wedding.  If you have extravagant tastes, but a limited budget, consider placing floral centerpieces on every other table.  Place candles or smaller centerpiece flowers on the remaining tables.  This way, you still can have the amazing centerpiece of your dreams without busting the budget.

Do You Have a Momzilla!

If you are wondering what a Momzilla is exactly, you probably don’t have one.  However, if you have a mom or mother-in-law to be that is a little out of control, you may have Momzilla.  Some brides find themselves living out the wedding fantasy of their moms.  From the dress to the reception, mom has an opinion of how things should be.  While input is usually appreciated, a Momzilla will take over the day and forget the focus is about the bride.

Where it gets tricky is that many times the parents are paying for the wedding and feel that their input trumps the opinions of the happy couple.  The reality is that if they are footing the bill, you may have to put up with some decisions you don’t agree with in the end.

So if your mom is throwing a tantrum when things don’t go her way, politely remind her that it is your day and while you want her to be a part of it, you need to create the wedding of YOUR dreams.

FLAWLESS FLOWERS

Filed under: Flowers (wedding) — tiffanymullen @ 10:18 am

Helpful Floral Tip

I did the absolute perfect wedding two weeks ago. Not because it was the MOST beautiful, or the MOST expensive (or for that matter, it wasnt the cheapest either) or the MOST anything really. But what it taught me was to educate my brides about seasonality, color, and stability, efficiency, and weather resistance better. These arent always things you think about as a florist. You mostly want to make as much money as possible, while making your bride as happy as she can be and hope to get to be a bit creative in the process. But lots of suprises happen, and because flowers usually arrive in our state only a day or two ahead of the wedding, once these problems are identified, often there is no time to fix them. A wedding like this offers NO surprises.

This wedding was the BEST wedding because it was so appropriate for absolutely ANY bride, ANY time of year, ANY budget, at ANY venue, during ANY weather conditions, with ANY delivery method. So here is why you should think of these things as a soon to be bride.

*Green and White hydrangea with green cymbidium orchids was the entire wedding.
*Neutral decor, season-free color pallete, works with ANY colors for dresses and accents
*Durable, available all year long, weather resistant to rain, snow and heat and lack of water
*Because you only order 3 flowers, great price breaks happen when you order in bulk. Can be tailored to ANY budget.
*Can increase or decrease the use of the cymbidiums to make a more modern, contemporary, upscale wedding, look beautiful. You can downplay the use and use garden containers, urns or family heirlooms to make an event seem more simple, fun, and family oriented.

*Centerpieces were lush candle rings with tall glass cylinders in the middle with candles.
*These take very little time to make, reducing your costs, but give HUGE impact, increasing WOW factor.
*Candles can be done formally as tall pillars, more romantically as floating candles in water with uplighting, or more whimsically with colored water, colored sand or jewels and floating flower shaped candles.
*The rings can double as pew/chair decor before reception and them be moved over to tables after wedding to double their use.
*They are easy to transport reducing and damage in transit.
* The design of these gives you the impact of having tall showy centerpieces without having the visual blocking effects of tall centerpieces.

*All bouquet work was done as handhelds. Hydrangea are large, occupying most of the space of a bouquet requiring very few flowers to make a bridal bouquet look stunning while being super affordable. They hold up well out of water and are very durable, never bruise when touched or laid down, and make a good base for almost ANY flower. The green cymbidium orchids are easily wired and taped and run through the middle of these making a stunning show. Fun ribbon wraps can be totally bedazzled, bejeweled, done all out, without it looking over the top, because of the neutrality of the flowers.

Truly the perfect wedding. Whatever your budget, whatever time of year, wherever your venue, think of hydrangeas to avoid any potential floral shortcomings :)

Booking your wedding transportation

As you plan your wedding, you are going to want to think about transportation.  You will need to consider how you and your wedding party will get to and from the wedding and the reception.  Remember that some bridal party members may be flying in from out of town.  If you aren’t planning on renting a limo or other transportation, make sure they have someone they can share a ride with on the day of the wedding.

You may want to consider at least renting a limo or a town car for you and your hubby.  You will be dressed up in the gown of your dreams.  Scrunching into the back of a Honda Civic may not be the fantasy you have dreamt about on your wedding day.

Wedding transportation can be as unique as the bride and groom.  You can opt for a traditional method like a limousine, or go with something a little different like trolley or a party bus.

Sending Thank You Notes

Sending a thank you note is such an important part of being a bride.  Don’t wait until after the wedding to start sending the notes.  Once you get engaged, you will receive weddings up to and past the wedding itself. If you receive a gift, take time and send the thank you note within a few days.  Some etiquette books will say you have up to three months to send a thank you.  I personally think a thank you should be sent within two weeks of receiving a gift.  The exception may be giving your self a little extra time with the honeymoon.  So, unless you are taking a one month honeymoon, you still should be able to send out all the thank you notes within 30 days of your wedding.

Platinum Weddings….Wow!

Filed under: A Rachel Reeves BLOG, Ceremony, Decorations and Rentals, Flowers (wedding), Receptions — Rachel Reeves - BrideAndGroomPlanner.com @ 8:21 am

Platinum Weddings is term used to describe extremely lavish weddings.  Typically reaching the million dollar mark, these wedding have everything from custom table linens, exotic locations, and so many flowers, lets hope the guests don’t have allergies!

When planning a wedding, every detail seems so important.  This is where weddings become costly.  Who doesn’t want the engraved invitations or the imported roses on each table?

While maybe your wedding is costing over million, what is the one item you have splurged on for your big day?

Flowers….Fresh or Silk

Filed under: A Rachel Reeves BLOG, Flowers (wedding) — Rachel Reeves - BrideAndGroomPlanner.com @ 1:00 am

Many brides on a budget look for many DIY (Do It Yourself) options.  Some brides find that the price tag for fresh flowers is a budget buster.  The price for that silk rose at the local craft store may seem appealing.  I mean it’s only one day, right?   Maybe.

First off, there is nothing wrong with planning a wedding on a budget.  You do not need to spend thousands of dollars to have a memorable romantic wedding.  So, if budget is an issue, than you may want to explore some lower cost fresh options.  Many florist offer basic packages.  Even your local grocery stores are getting into the wedding business with their in-store floral departments.  You can also consider more affordable flowers.  Think of what flower is in season.  They will be much more affordable than having to ship in Hydrangea in a Northern state in the middle of winter.  Daisies are a sweet romantic and affordable option.

So, before you decide that you can’t afford fresh flowers…look at a couple different options.  In my opinion, nothing beats a fresh flower.

Favorite Seasons

I often wonder what makes a couple pick one time of the year over another. I prefer the bright vibrant colors of a summer bouquet spotted with sunflowers and daisies. Of course for others there may be the unique variety of decor that fall brings. Fresh stalks of wheat, berries of all colors, even fresh fruit. As winter approaches it’s time to sparkle and shine and spring brings back the old standards; tulips, daffodils, and irises just to name a few.
So when it comes time to set a date, think of your favorite seasons and all the little surprises it can hold. Each season offers it’s own unique advantage. So why did you pick yours?

Tuxedo Styles - New Trends

The Chocolate Brown Tux. I hope the trend passes soon. Black is classic. Let the woman wear the color. The only thing a chocolate colored tux is good for is hiding the spots from dripings from the chocolate fountain.
