Picking that Perfect Dress

Filed under: A Rachel Reeves BLOG, Wedding Dresses — Rachel Reeves - BrideAndGroomPlanner.com @ 11:40 am

When I was getting married, I think I tried on several dozen dresses at several different stores.  I mean, when would I get another chance to put on dress after beautiful dress.  I ended up deciding on the third dress I tried on.  However, I tried on all different styles, fabrics and designs until I was assured I had made the right decision.

As you begin or continue your quest for the perfect dress, just know that you may never get that ‘This Is The One’ feeling.  It usually is that one dress that just keeps sticking out even after you try on others.  Think of it like finding your hubby.  If you were lucky (and it’s rare), it was love at first sight.  But for most of us, we really liked our soon to be hubby and over time, we realized he was perfect for us and hence, you get married.  So, don’t be too worried if you haven’t found that perfect dress.  You will eventually find one and you will wonder how you could have ever worn anything else.

Two Dresses?

Filed under: A Rachel Reeves BLOG, Wedding Dresses — Rachel Reeves - BrideAndGroomPlanner.com @ 12:19 pm

The dream of the perfect wedding dress may have changed over the years.  In fact, many brides are finding that there isn’t a perfect dress, there are TWO.  Yes, brides everywhere are finding that to have the wedding of their dreams one dress simply won’t do.  Sparing no expense, brides are purchasing a dress for the ceremony, and after a quick wardrobe change, enter their receptions in an entirely new gown.

Some brides are opting for the traditional Cinderella dress for the ceremony and then glam it up for the reception with an elegant sheath or a sexy mini.

So, if you can’t decide on your perfect dress, get two!

Vintage Wedding Gown Restoration

Filed under: Wedding Dresses — pbdempsey @ 9:05 pm

We’re seeing a resurgance in brides wearing a family gown or veil.  From our experience, these brides seem to be somewhat older and more mature.  They’re focusing on the sentimentality of the day.

For those brides who want to wear a vintage gown, but it has spots on it, seek out a Certified Wedding Gown Specialist (www.WeddingGownSpecialists.com) and explore what can be done with them.

Of course if you need any local help, we are your local Certified Wedding Gown Specialists and we LOVE working of vintage gowns!

Are two dresses better than one?

Filed under: Wedding Dresses — Linda Surles @ 6:38 am

Yes, it is true. There are many brides these days that are buying two wedding dresses…one for the ceremony and one for the reception. If you are the type of girl that thinks this is a great idea, you don’t have to blow the budget. You can get a great deal at one of the Brides Against Breast Cancer sales around the country. Brides Against Breast Cancer offers new and used gowns, some of them being very high-end couture gowns from Melissa Sweet and Anne Barge. Proceeds from the sale of the gowns help grant wishes to terminally ill breast cancer patients. Just think, you can have that second gown AND help a very worthy cause. Cheers! Linda Surles, Publisher of the Atlanta Bride & Groom Planner

Brides I am so impressed in the quality of Vendors we bring into the industry, keep doing those surveys. http://brideandgroomplanner.com/myWeddingSurvey.php

My favorite part of our planner and Website is the Your Future section, we take pride and staying with you after your special day, don’t overlook this section, we are growing and have recently signed on a couple of Realtors and a Financial Planner. I spent an hour with our financial planner last week and he educated me more in that hour than I have ever been in my 39 years. What better gift could your parents or you give to yourselves than a free financial consultation to start your marriage off right and avoid one of the biggest potholes you could get into.

On the lighter side have you checked out our wedding disaster videos? http://www.brideandgroomplanner.com/stopWeddingDisasters.php  Share them with you friends and family?

Don’t miss our idea galleries it’s my favorite part of our new site. Look for the mouse ring box for all your computer savvy fiancés or boyfriends what a trip!!!! It’s in the wedding ring section.http://cincinnati.brideandgroomplanner.com/pictureGalleries.php

And don’t forget your engagement stories and add a picture after such romantic stories we want to see you.

Tips on finding your perfect Wedding Gown (from someone who DOESN’T sell them!)

Filed under: Tuxedos and Formal Wear, Wedding Dresses — pbdempsey @ 7:03 pm

We’ve had experience with hundreds and hundreds of wedding gowns over the years. The advice we are about to give you is WORTH reading. Of course our ultimate goal for your wedding day is for you to look your absolute, most gorgeous, best. This advice might just help you do that and save you some headaches along the way!

TIP #1

Wedding gowns are expensive. A bridal salon’s job is to SELL you a gown and make as much money as they can. Educate yourself. Check the fiber content on the gowns you are interested in. Synthetic gowns are much less expensive than silk gowns, and many synthetics today look absolutely lovely. Of course, if only silk will do, make sure it is 100% silk; not a blend! You will generally pay the same price for a solid silk gown and a blended silk gown. Get your money’s worth! Also, blended silk gowns do not clean up very well because the silk fibers and the blended fibers react differently to stains and cleaning chemicals.

TIP #2

Stay away from gowns made with acetate. Acetate stretches, shrinks and is very difficult to get stains out of. Twin City Cleaners sees a lot of bridesmaids gowns made with acetate that say “Professionally Spot Clean Only”. It is extremely difficult to spot clean acetate without leaving a ring on the fabric. We are successful with most, but it’s not easy!

TIP #3

Many bridal salons use in house resources for alterations and pressing. To pay for this they want to sell you a package deal that may include these services with the cost of your gown. None of these additional services are free. Make sure that you are not overpaying and that you are comfortable with their expertise. If you feel that you might be overpaying, ask for a discounted rate on your gown that would exclude those services. Then check outside resources that you are comfortable with.

TIP #4

Consider wearing your mother’s or grandmothers gown. Now wait a minute….I know….you don’t want lace up to your ears and down to your fingertips! You should know that if the gown just isn’t your style, consider having it restyled to make it your own! We’ve done several, and would be delighted to talk to you about the possibilities! We also restore vintage gowns back to their original color.

We hope these tips are helpful to you in searching for your perfect gown! If we can help you please give us a call.
